With funding from the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Parent Power has celebrated Black History 365 by creating a six-month rich programme of events, activities and workshops all about parenting in the African and Caribbean community.
We are creating spaces for exploration through talking workshops, food, the performing arts, arts and crafts and to encourage dialogue within families and communities about our heritage and belonging. We want parents to articulate their stories in order to understand and help their children articulate theirs.
We have explored a wide range of topics from:
parenting styles and culture
parenting styles across generations
single fatherhood
grandparenting
racial identity
understanding our heritage
traditions
food
The celebrations and discussions aren't just for African and Caribbean families alone. We welcome all and love to engage in cross-cultural dialogue and share the beautiful things that make us a community.
