About Me

My Background

Bianca Sapara-Grant is the founder and CEO of Parent Power. She founded this organisation to support families thrive and to provide training for professionals to build their capacity to deliver effective services to support these families.  


She has worked to support families for 20 years across the educational, health, voluntary and social services sectors. She has practiced as a Literacy and Family Learning Tutor, Parent Support Practitioner and a Domestic Abuse Training and Awareness Officer.


Qualifications include   a PGCE in literacy,  Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme for children and teens ); a Level 4 qualification in work with parents, and certification in strengthening families and strengthening communities (SFSC). Most recently, Bianca has qualified as NHS Mental Health First Aid Instructor for 8-18 year olds. 

Achievements

Successfully  written and delivered several training programmes to support families across the UK including 'The Teenage brain and why teens take risks to thrive and Grow' A programme that was  also delivered at a Parenting conference.


Lead training programmes for professionals including successfully training professionals  in engaging vulnerable families in particular Black and minority ethnic groups and marginalised communities.


Successfully became a project coordinator for  the Hunger programme; a government initiative to support vulnerable children and their families in encouraging healthy lifestyle of diet,  exercise and personal development.


Credibility

Parent Power offers excellent and high quality services and products that have been tried and tested to meet customer requirements. The programmes  are Evidence-based, underpinned by sound theoretical principles that have been supported by a substantial amount of research in the field of child development. We regularly update our teaching and learning resources to reflect policy and practice. Products and services have been a resource for local authorities, schools the NHS and the fostering sector. We work hard to be a resource that adds value and makes a difference.

Our master class programmes meet the specific training and development needs of staff who work  with families; In particular parents of teens. We offer bespoke, or create courses to meet their needs. TRIPLE P GROUP

Triple P (Positive  Parenting Programmes), draws on social learning, cognitive behavioural and developmental theory as well as research into risk factors associated with the development of social and behavioural problems in children. It aims to equip parents with the skills and confidence they need to be self-sufficient and to be able to manage family issues without ongoing support.

TRIPLE P TEEN

The Triple P Teen programme teaches parents about the  factors which influence teenage behaviour;  How to develop a positive relationship with your teenager;  encouraging appropriate behaviour;  coaching problem-solving skills : managing problem behaviour 6. negotiating family rules; dealing with emotional behaviour:  preparing for new or risky situations.

SFSC

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities is an inclusive evidence-based parenting programme, designed to promote protective factors which are associated with good parenting and better outcomes for children. In particular; SFSC  reaches parents from a number of backgrounds, including black and minority ethnic parents, teenaged parents, parents with learning disabilities and parents from marginalised communities, including those with experience of drugs, alcohol or violence.

TEENS IN TRANSITIONS

Parenting teenagers can be challenging and many parents find it hard to adapt to changes in their child's behaviour as they grow up. This programme provides parents of teens with  knowledge about characteristics of teen behaviour understanding on how to accommodate the developmental changes effectively and skills  to help parents successfully support transition into adulthood.

TALKABILITY

Many families experience a communication gap between parents and teenagers. This programme will teach parents;  how to improve their communication with their  teenagers. Parents will gain insights into why teens may communicate less with them; how to effectively cope with their emotional outbursts: how to  talk about sensitive issues; like sex, drugs and alcohol. Parents will also learn how to keep communication lines open.

TEENS AND TECHNLOGY

This training will provide parents  with an understanding of how and  why teenagers use technology, From the internet and social media,  phones, apps, games, television and other types of  devices.  Parents will learn about the dangers of cyberbullying, internet criminal activity, pornography and how to protect  their teens from it.  They will learn how to help their teens manage their use of technology including  internet safety and parental controls.

This training provides professionals with the knowledge and the understanding of the teenage brain and why teens take risks to thrive and grow. Course content includes The teen brain and developmental changes ; why teens take risks ;Positive risk-taking and its benefits ; Building positive relationships with teenagers; How to encourage positive behaviour and keeping teenagers safe.

Sexualisation of young women and girls

This training provides professionals  

with an understanding of the sexualisation of girls  and women. Class,

Culture, religion and class in mediating sexualisation. The impact of sexualisation on mental, emotional and physical health

with an understanding  the sexualisation  of culture. Sexualisation and violence in teenage relationships and the role of parents, schools and professionals in promoting healthy, respectful, emotionally fulfilling relationships.

Promoting good mental health in children and young people

This training provides professionals of what mental health and mental illness is and an understanding of what mental health problems commonly occur in children and teens: understanding changes, challenges and trauma in childhood and teenage years and building resilience; and what parents can do to support children's mental health and wellbeing.
